This is the 3rd time that I put my pink flip-flops on the splendid beaches of Mauritius and to tell the truth, I never get tired of it. Short timezone difference, a safe destination, the hospitality of these inhabitants, its lagoon … In short, a whole to fully enjoy this paradise island, located 9000 km from France.
Let me share my latest experience with you.
In April, we said “yes” on the beach, barefoot, hair in the wind. A magical, incredible and original moment … I can’t find the exact word.
Below are a few pieces of advice that could really make your trip to Mauritius even better. All the details here are from my personal experience collected from my past trips to this piece of paradise located in the Indian ocean .
Here we go !
When to go to Mauritius?
The climate of the island has two seasons which are reversed compared to ours (Southern Hemisphere):
Southern Summer: from November to March, hot and humid season with an average temperature of 30 °. January to March, know that this is a cyclonic period.
Southern Winter: from April to October, the temperatures are milder, even cooler (in the evening)
The water temperature ranges from 27 ° C in February to 23 ° in July.
In addition to the climate, I would add that the choice of the coast is also wise.
The West (Flic en Flac) and North (Grand Baie) coasts of the Island are generally warmer and less watered than the East (Belle Mare) and South coasts, which are more exposed to the wind.
If you love sunsets, choose the West Coast automatically!
We had settled on the East Coast in one of the magnificent holiday villas in Mauritius. The wind blew almost every day. Advantage: the heat was more bearable and no mosquito bothered us!
How to move around the island?
3 options are available to you:
- Either you drive a rental vehicle (be careful driving on the left, a gift from the English, the last to have occupied the island)
- Either you play it 100% quiet: a driver guide takes you where you want and reveals his treasures (70 € / day).
- Or as a good adventurer you are, you take the local bus.
We opted for the 100% quiet day. My first and last left-hand driving experience was particularly incredible. Advantage: with a driver, you contemplate the landscape and chat at the same time! You take full advantage of this magnificent place.
